Tragic

The final painting in my series: One of These Nights[link] , 'Tis But a Scrath [link] ,
Night Moves [link] , and now this. (The titles seemed to get shorter as the series progressed...just noticed that.)

Acrylic on canvas, 22" x 28", with foam core side panels. Decided to return to some good ol' classic Sin City imagery this time, and I'm very happy with the results. The character and dialogue aren't from any particular SC story; just something original (relatively speaking, of course) that I came up with. I originall thought to paint the background black and paint raindrops in silver (ala "One of These Nights"), but once I had the body painted in, I decided against it; I thought the figure spoke for itself without a background. Like with "'Tis But a Scratch", the blood was painted over in latex enamel for a light-catching effect. The shading you see in the photo was the result of the available lighting when it was taken.

I kind of cheated with the side panels this time; rather than meticulously painting the dialogue by hand, I printed it out on my computer, glued the image to the foam core board, cut them out, then painted over the black areas (and white where necessary) just to keep the look consistent. I guess I shouldn't feel too bad for shortcutting; after all, part of being an artist is knowing how to BS your audience. *snicker* I kid, I kid.

The "THE END?" panel is a little ironic, given my next semester is the first in about two years that I won't be in a painting class. *sob*
