The promotional artwork for this latest (and greatest) Bond film was surprisingly minimalist, so I went along similar lines, but a touch more ornate. Playing off the repeated use of skulls in the opening credits and the sugar-skull emblem of Raoul Silva (the most memorable Bond villain outside of the Connery era, if you ask me), I designed this to represent James Bond himself, mixing common descriptors of the character - the girls, England, Aston Martin and the Walther PPK - with a few images from Skyfall - the deer statue, and the bullet wound he takes in the pre-credits chase, hence the blood trickle from that one bullet hole.
Constructing the skull was an interesting experiment. Lots of trial and error in arranging the pieces and drawing out the various swirls and such. Then came the half-fun half-pain in the ass of applying all the staining and cracked paint. I managed to surprise myself in how well that first bullet holes came out (the one with the blood), then the rest came pretty easily once I had the procedure down.
This is completely different to any other Skyfall poster I have seen, yet it still includes many motifs used in the film. It really stands out from the rest.
